COVID-19 Risk Assessment

The Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) have issued the following statement:

While we have asked the government for formal clarification on the point, we believe that it is within government guidance to resume face-to-face instrumental tuition if you wish to do so, provided that you have undertaken a risk assessment and taken all steps to make your place of work COVID-secure, with all necessary steps to minimise the risk of infection, including those who may be considered clinically extremely vulnerable.

By attending lessons you agree that face-to-face tuition will never be entirely free of risk of contracting COVID-19 but you understand and accept that I have made all efforts to assess risks accurately and taken steps to minimise risks where identified.

The purpose of the below is to highlight possible Hazards along with the actions my students and I must take to protect everyone from harm and to minimise the risks of COVID-19 transmission. If you feel I have overlooked anything, please do not hesitate to discuss this with me.

Hazard Action
Getting or spreading coronavirus on entry/exit points Upon entering the garden please use the anti-bacterial gel situated on the outside table. If you would prefer to use your own, please do so before entering the Conservatory
When waiting for your lesson, please wait at least 2m distance from the Door (even if you have to go on the grass) until the previous person has vacated the garden
Getting or spreading coronavirus from uncleaned surfaces, equipment and workstations At the end of each teaching Day I will be using antibacterial wipes to clean thoroughly the piano and all surrounding areas. I can also wipe it down at the beginning of each lesson as necessary when students request. If everyone uses the hand sanitiser provided, hands should be clean before touching the piano to avoid the spread of germs
Contracting or spreading the virus by not social distancing Unfortunately it is not possible to keep a 2m distance when teaching piano, I will try to keep 1m away where possible, and will also be wearing a face covering. It is not necessary for you to wear a mask, but if you have one and would prefer to wear it please do
Payment by bank transfer is preferable to avoid contact, however where only cash is possible, please ensure you have the correct change
Unfortunately I cannot currently allow parents to accompany children to their lessons in order to minimise the risks. A seat will be made available in the garden should parents choose to wait there
Poor ventilation leading to risks of coronavirus spreading The windows will be left open at all times during teaching, please be aware of this when dressing for your lesson

If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, or live with someone experiencing the symptoms, please do not attend your lesson and inform me as soon as you can.

No cancellation charges currently apply.
