FAQs

What age group do you teach?

I’m happy to teach any age, and adapt my lessons accordingly.

What if I don’t read music?

It is not compulsory when first starting out. If you are looking to play professionally, then it will eventually be necessary and I can show you the basics whilst recommending you study theory of music alongside your piano lessons. For personal enjoyment, you will learn as you progress.

 I don’t own a piano?

There are several colleges & studios in the local area where you can practice piano. Most of my students have a small keyboard at home to enable them to practice in between lessons. Whilst it is not necessary to own a piano in order to improve with regular lessons, progress is always easier & quicker with practice.

I only want to learn a specific song?

I encourage students to choose a piece of music/song they want to learn – no matter their ability. It’s always exciting to be learning something you are passionate about. I also welcome people that just want to learn a specific song/piece to impress or for a particular event.

I want to do exams, can I do them with you?

The only time I would recommend taking exams is if you’re looking to pursue a career in music or playing professionally. Whilst I do not have much experience of putting people through exams as most of my students are mature and only want to learn for fun, I am more than willing to help you along your journey and would put you forward for the ABRSM exams.

I want to learn for a specific event/deadline?

Depending on the timeline, I might suggest more frequent lessons to allow sufficient practice & progress. We would concentrate more on learning what you need for your performance, rather than step-by-step piano playing.
